Community Outreach / Current Events
ESMC takes great pride in offering community outreach programs such as breast cancer awareness, a Freedom From Smoking clinic, a free Childrens Health Fair, prostate screening, foot clinic, and more. Staff participates in Career Day at local schools. ESMC sponsors an Easter Egg Hunt for area children and "Trick or Treat" at the Convalescent Center.

Occupational Therapy Month celebrated in April,
National Hospital Week celebration now underway!
Excelsior Springs Medical Center is currently celebrating National Hospital Week, May 11 - 17. On May 12, the annual Balloon Liftoff was held at the Convalescent Care Center. Employees received recognition and awards May 13. On May 15, volunteer's will be honored at the annual Volunteer's Luncheon and on May 16, an employee picnic will be held.
In April, Occupational Therapists hosted a month-long celebration showcasing the importance of Occupational Therapy. The event emphasized the profession's dedication to helping people of all ages with physical, mental and psychosocial disabilities meet the demands of daily living.
Employee Stephanie Firebaugh, right, participated in the ESMC ice cream social. Wheelchairs, walkers, canes, arm slings, eyeglasses and gloves were all used as props for various disabilities.

Employee of the Second Quarter
Danny Campbell was recently recognized as Employee of the Second Quarter. Danny has worked for ESMC since January 2006. He is part of our maintenance crew and he takes wonderful care of our grounds.
He is one of those silent workers that always gets the job done. Many of the comments on the nomination forms said what a hard worker he is, who is a caring individual who goes above and beyond for anyone. He always has a smile on his face and has such a great attitude.

2008 Hospital Golf Tournament scheduled
Just a reminder to mark your calendars for the 2008 Excelsior Springs Hospital Golf Tournament to be held Friday, June 6, 2008 at the beautiful Excelsior Springs Golf Course. ESMC receives ACR accreditation
Excelsior Springs Medical Center has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in Mammography-Film Screen as the result of a recent survey by the American College of Radiology.
The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities for the achievement of high practice standards after a peer-review evaluation of the practice. Board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field conduct evaluations. They assess the qualifications of the personnel and the adequacy of facility equipment. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR’s Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report.
The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic-interventional radiologist, radiation oncologists, and nuclear medicine and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.

Debbie McGregor - Employee of the Year
Debbie McGregor has been selected by employees as the Employee of the Year. Employee of the Year is chosen from the Employees of the Quarter.
Debbie began working at ESMC in the Dietary Department in 2001 and soon after transferred to the Health Information Management Department.Debbie has been a team player in the HIM Department for the past six years. She has been a loyal and dedicated employee, working as a transcriptionist. She has a great attitude toward her job. Debbie is always happy and shares her fun sense of humor with everyone. She is willing to help anyone and is a very dependable co-worker.
Debbie was honored at the employee Christmas luncheon with a lapel pin, certificate and flowers. She will be honored again during National Hospital Week, where she will receive a plaque and $100.
Debbie is a resident of Richmond, Mo.

Public Notice
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations will conduct an unannounced survey of the hospital, laboratory, long-term care (Convalescent Center and Residential Care), home health and hospice of Excelsior Springs Medical Center in 2006.
The purpose of the survey will be to evaluate the organization’s compliance with nationally established Joint Commission standards. The survey results will be used to determine whether, and the conditions under which accreditation should be awarded the organization.
Joint Commission standards deal with organizational quality of care issues and the safety of the environment in which care is provided. Anyone believing that he or she has pertinent and valid information about such matters may request a public information interview with the Joint Commission’s field representatives at the time of the survey. Information presented at the interview will be carefully evaluated for relevance to the accreditation process. Requests for a public information interview must be made in writing and should be sent to the Joint Commission. The request must also indicate the nature of the information to be provided at the interview. Such requests should be addressed to:
