Vision Realized ... Hospital begins outpatient expansion

Construction workers are making progress on the almost $9 million Outpatient and Wellness Clinic addition to Excelsior Springs Medical Center. Phase I is complete and provides for new patient parking and a vestibule entry that will be used during Phase II construction of the two-story addition.
When the project is completed, ESMC will have an additional 28,000 sq. ft. of space. The expansion will provide space for more specialists in the Outpatient Clinics and house Rehabilitation Services, Wellness Clinic, Pharmacy, Human Resources, administrative and medical staff offices, and a Community Outreach meeting area.
The Emergency Room will be expanded and the Hospital will also have a renovated lab, admitting and business office and an expanded gift shop. These services will be moved temporarily into the new wing when it is completed so that the existing space can be renovated. This will occur in late summer.
"This is a great addition to the Excelsior Springs community," said Congressman Sam Graves, who participated in the groundbreaking ceremony. "I am pleased to work with USDA Rural Development to help make this an even better place to live, work and raise a family."
"We need this expansion in order to continue to meet the ever-changing healthcare needs of our community," said Sally Nance, ESMC CEO. "As I have said many times, a hospital is more than bricks and mortar, it is above all else, people caring for people."
"Of its 104 year history, our Hospital has been at this location for 30 years," said Nance. "We have had three major expansions: the Convalescent Center in 1982, the Residential Care Center in 1996, and the Independent Living Unit in 2000. These wonderful services are part of why we are proud of our continuum of care and proud to say that we are more than just a Hospital."
"With this expansion, it is our sincere objective to make a difference in the quality of life for all our residents by not only meeting their healthcare needs, but by also improving the health status of the residents of Excelsior Springs and surrounding rural areas," said Nance.
ESMC's groundbreaking ceremony for a new Outpatient Clinic and Wellness Center was held July 3, 2007. USDA Rural Development provided $8 million in loan funds for the almost $9 million dollar project. Additional funding will be provided by a HRSA grant of $750,000, a Hospital Foundation grant of $100,000 and Hospital operations.
