Radiological Services
The Radiology Department offers complete medical and diagnostic imaging. Among the various imaging procedures are magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerized axial tomography (CT scan), ultrasonography (sonogram), nuclear medicine, dedicated mammography, and general radiography. All Radiology services are performed by highly trained individuals that are either registered or registry eligible.
Excelsior Springs Medical Center has installed a premium computed tomography (CT) system -- the AsteionTM from Toshiba America Medical Systems, pictured above. The systems fast speed means it can produce more precise images for more accurate diagnoses, and ESMC can test even more patients a day for head and spine injuries, lung and liver disease, cancer, tumors, and more.
Diagnostic Imaging Services
Bone Density procedures are used to detect osteoporosis, a debilitating disease that affects the strength of bones in an individual's body. This procedure reveals bone density deficiencies in sufficient time to allow treatment such a drug and hormone treatment which will either increase or maintain current bone density at a safe level. Simply, the less bone density an individual has the higher incidence in fractures of the hip or other weight bearing bones. Talk with your physician for testing with a Bone Densitometry unit.
Mammography examinations are done as a screening tool for all women 35 and over for evaluation of breast cancer. ESMC is accredited by the Food and Drug Administration through the Mammography Quality Standards Act (MSQA). This accreditation ensures that your mammography procedure is completed according to strict federal guidelines for the technologist, radiologist, physicist, also the equipment used to produce the mammographic images.
Mobile PET-CT Scanner Services
A mobile PET-CT scanner will visit the hospital twice monthly to do mobile screenings. PET, or Positron Emission Tomography, scans are used to determine staging for cancer patients basically to find out how far along a cancer patient is. The PET-CT scanner will be at ESMC every other Thursday afternoon.
